The Short Version

## Arlington car insurance, in 60 seconds

* **Car insurance in Arlington, Texas follows state law: at least 30/60/25 liability.** The coverage, costs and quotes that fit you depend on how and where you drive.
* **Arlington is a driving city.** TxDOT counted 5,317 crashes here in 2024, 35 of them fatal, and city transit is an on-demand rideshare with no fixed routes.
* **Hail, high water and theft hit your own car.** Comprehensive is the coverage that pays for them; liability alone doesn’t.
* **No approved source publishes an Arlington average premium.** The NAIC’s 2024 Texas average expenditure was $1,578.45, against $1,431.63 nationally. Context, not a quote.
* **Do this:** have our south Arlington team review your limits, deductibles and drivers before your next renewal.

If you live in Arlington, you drive: I-20 toward Fort Worth, I-30 toward Dallas, SH-360 to the airport, or Cooper Street across town. Maybe your renewal went up or hail caught your car in a parking lot, and you want car insurance in Arlington, Texas that actually fits. The questions are the same: what should you carry, what does it cost, and how do you get a quote you can trust?

Our office is in south Arlington near I-20, so these are the roads and storms we see every week. For the full statewide rulebook, see our [guide to Texas car coverage](https://www.robinsonlegacypartners.com/blog/auto-insurance/texas-car-insurance-guide-coverage-costs-and-quote-decisions/).

## What makes driving in Arlington different?

**The short answer:** Arlington is a city of about 402,000 people built around the car, on interstates and busy arterials, with stadium and event traffic layered on top.

The Census Bureau’s [QuickFacts](https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/arlingtoncitytexas/PST045224) puts Arlington’s population at **402,134** (July 2025 estimate) and the average commute at **26.6 minutes** (2020–2024), almost exactly the Texas average of 26.7. What sets Arlington apart is the roads:

* **I-20 and I-30** cross the south and north of the city, carrying commuters toward Fort Worth and Dallas.
* **SH-360 on the east,** the north-south route toward DFW Airport, meeting both interstates.
* **Cooper and Collins streets,** busy north-south arterials full of signals and turning traffic.
* **Event traffic** in the Entertainment District off I-30 on game and concert days.

The city’s public transit is [Arlington On-Demand](https://www.arlingtontx.gov/City-Services/Transportation-Streets-Traffic/Arlington-On-Demand), a rideshare that the city says has “no fixed schedules, no fixed routes,” with a connection to the CentrePort station on the Trinity Railway Express. When we review an Arlington policy, we ask where each car goes every day, not just where it sleeps.

## How often do crashes happen on Arlington roads?

**The short answer:** TxDOT counted 5,317 reported crashes in Arlington in 2024, including 35 fatal crashes that killed 38 people and 168 crashes with suspected serious injuries.

5,317

reported crashes in the city of Arlington in 2024, more than 14 a day on average (our math), according to TxDOT’s [2024 Crashes and Injuries, Cities and Towns](https://www.txdot.gov/content/dam/docs/division/trf/crash-records/2024/14.pdf) report, processed as of April 9, 2025.

Source: Texas Department of Transportation 2024 crash statistics ([cities](https://www.txdot.gov/content/dam/docs/division/trf/crash-records/2024/14.pdf); [counties](https://www.txdot.gov/content/dam/docs/division/trf/crash-records/2024/13.pdf)), data as of April 9, 2025. Crashes reported on Texas Peace Officer’s Crash Reports.

| 2024 measure | Arlington | Tarrant County |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Total crashes | **5,317** | 28,074 |
| Fatal crashes (people killed) | 35 (38) | 189 (201) |
| Crashes with suspected serious injuries | 168 | 860 |
| Crashes with suspected minor injuries | 1,214 | 4,990 |

More than half involved an injury or unknown severity, and one interstate crash can involve several cars drawing on the same liability limits. That’s why we spend more time on limits than on price.

"Insurance works best when it's understood."

## What car insurance does Texas require of Arlington drivers?

**The short answer:** Arlington has no separate rule; you need Texas’s minimum of 30/60/25 liability, and your insurer must include PIP and offer uninsured motorist coverage unless you reject them in writing.

That’s **$30,000** for injuries per person, **$60,000** per accident and **$25,000** for property damage, according to TDI’s [auto insurance guide](https://www.tdi.texas.gov/pubs/consumer/cb020.html) and [Transportation Code § 601.072](https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/TN/htm/TN.601.htm). Under [Insurance Code chapter 1952](https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/IN/htm/IN.1952.htm), personal injury protection (PIP) and uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage come with the policy unless the named insured rejects them in writing.

UM/UIM matters here: TxDMV estimated **11.87%** of Texas drivers were uninsured as of September 2025, roughly one in eight, according to its [TexasSure page](https://www.txdmv.gov/motorists/register-your-vehicle/texassure-insurance-verification). Our [statewide guide to Texas auto coverage](https://www.robinsonlegacypartners.com/blog/auto-insurance/texas-car-insurance-guide-coverage-costs-and-quote-decisions/) covers PIP, penalties and teen drivers.

## Which Arlington weather and theft risks fall on your own policy?

**The short answer:** Hail, flash flooding and theft damage your own car, and the coverage that usually pays for all three is comprehensive, not liability.

**Hail.** Texas led the U.S. with **902** major hail events (one inch or larger) in 2025, according to the [Insurance Information Institute](https://www.iii.org/fact-statistic/facts-statistics-hail), citing NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center. TDI’s [April 2026 storm tips](https://www.tdi.texas.gov/news/2026/tdi04162026.html) say comprehensive “covers damage to your car from flood, hail, fire, and wind.”

**High water.** Arlington is laced with creeks, including Johnson, Rush, Village and Fish, and some streets flood in heavy rain. On May 29, 2015, the [City of Arlington](https://arlingtontx.gov/news/my_arlington_t_x/news_archive/2015_archived_news/may_2015/latest_round_of_flooding_leads_to_park) closed Park Hill Drive at Green Oaks Boulevard for flooding, telling drivers, “if you see a road covered in water, turn around.” The city’s [FY 2025 budget](https://citybudgets.tarrantcounty.com/flipbook/CityBudgets/2025/Arlington/files/basic-html/page518.html) describes nine flood monitoring sites recording rainfall and stream depths. The National Weather Service [warns](https://www.weather.gov/safety/flood-turn-around-dont-drown) that “just 12 inches of rushing water” can carry away most cars.

**Theft.** Comprehensive also covers a stolen car, according to TDI, and TxDMV’s [prevention tips](https://www.txdmv.gov/motorists/consumer-protection/auto-theft-prevention) start simple: lock it, take your keys and park in well-lit areas. Belongings stolen from a car fall under renters or homeowners coverage; see our [Texas renters insurance guide](https://www.robinsonlegacypartners.com/blog/renters-insurance/texas-renters-insurance-guide-coverage-cost-and-quote-questions/).

Source: Texas Department of Insurance, [Auto insurance guide](https://www.tdi.texas.gov/pubs/consumer/cb020.html) and April 2026 storm tips. Your policy’s wording controls.

| Arlington risk | Coverage that usually responds | With liability only |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Hail on a parked car | Comprehensive, after your deductible | You pay |
| Car stalls in a flooded street | Comprehensive, after your deductible | You pay |
| Car stolen from a lot | Comprehensive | You pay |
| An uninsured driver hits you on I-20 | UM/UIM and PIP, unless you rejected them | You pay |

Arlington watch-out**Your car and your roof are two claims.** Hail on your car goes to your auto comprehensive deductible; hail on your roof goes to your homeowners policy, often with a percentage deductible. Our [Arlington home insurance guide](https://www.robinsonlegacypartners.com/blog/home-insurance/home-insurance-in-arlington-texas-coverage-costs-and-quotes/) covers the house side, and our [wind and hail deductible explainer](https://www.robinsonlegacypartners.com/blog/home-insurance/how-do-wind-and-hail-deductibles-work-on-texas-home-insurance/) shows the math.

## How much liability coverage makes sense for an Arlington commute?

**The short answer:** Enough to cover a multi-car crash with several injured people, which for many Arlington households means limits well above 30/60/25, because anything past your limits can come back to you.

TDI says it plainly: “If you don’t have enough coverage, you’ll have to pay the difference yourself.”

Illustrative example · not a quote
Leaving a game on SH-360, you rear-end a sedan and push it into an SUV. You’re at fault. Medical bills: **$35,000** for the sedan’s driver, **$20,000** for the SUV’s driver and **$12,000** for a passenger ($67,000). Vehicle repairs: **$28,000** and **$19,000** ($47,000).

* With **30/60/25** limits, injuries are capped at $30,000 per person and $60,000 per accident, and property damage at $25,000. The policy pays up to **$85,000**, leaving **$29,000** ($7,000 + $22,000) that could come back to you.
* With **100/300/100** limits, every amount falls inside its limit, covering all **$114,000** in this example.

How any claim is paid depends on your policy and the facts.

Our view: match UM/UIM to your liability limits.

## How much does car insurance cost in Arlington?

**The short answer:** No regulator or approved public source publishes an Arlington average, but the NAIC put Texas’s 2024 average auto expenditure at $1,578.45 a year, above the $1,431.63 national figure; that’s a statewide average, not a quote.

Those figures come from the NAIC’s [2024 Auto Insurance Database Average Premium Supplement](https://content.naic.org/sites/default/files/2024-adb-average-premium-supplement.pdf) (released October 2026), the latest available. It also put Texas’s combined average premium at **$1,917.05** and its comprehensive average at **$455.00**, against **$283.15** nationally. The NAIC doesn’t say why, but comprehensive is the coverage that pays for hail.

**Why do numbers online differ?** Rate websites advertise Arlington prices “from” a low monthly figure, built on a sample driver with minimum coverage, while the NAIC blends every insured car in Texas. Different samples give different numbers; none is your price. Where the car is kept is a rating factor, according to TDI, so your Arlington ZIP code is part of your quote.

Look past the premiumA lower price can mean minimum limits or no comprehensive. Read the **limits** and ** deductibles** first.

## What moves an Arlington driver’s premium?

**The short answer:** Your driving record, where you live and how much you drive, who’s on the policy, the car, your credit and the limits and deductibles you pick, according to TDI; each company weighs them its own way.

Companies file their own rates with TDI, according to its [guide to how premiums are calculated](https://www.tdi.texas.gov/consumer/how-are-your-auto-and-homeowners-insurance-costs-calculated.html). In Arlington, the factors look like this:

Driving record

### Tickets, crashes and claims

TDI lists your driving record and claims history first.

Location and mileage

### Your ZIP and your commute

A move from 76015 to 76006, or a daily I-30 run to Dallas, can change the price.

Drivers and car

### Who drives what

A new teen, a UTA student home on weekends or a pricier car all count.

Your choices

### Limits and deductibles

Higher deductibles generally lower the premium and raise what you pay after a hailstorm.

Each company sets its own discounts, TDI notes, so ask which may fit, such as multi-car or bundling.

What changed in 2026Under SB 1644, insurers that use credit must generally update an insured’s credit information at least every three years, and SB 458 requires an appraisal provision in personal auto policies, both for policies issued or renewed after January 1, 2026, according to TDI [Bulletin B-0012-25](https://www.tdi.texas.gov/bulletins/2025/b-0012-25.html).

## How do you get a car insurance quote in Arlington?

**The short answer:** Start from your current declarations page, decide your limits and deductibles first, list every driver and car, then review the quote with a licensed local agent who can explain each line.

Here’s the order we use at our office on Highlander Blvd:

1. **Pull your current declarations page**

It lists your drivers, cars, coverages, limits, deductibles and premium: your baseline.
2. **Set liability and UM/UIM limits first**

Pick limits that fit what you own and a multi-car interstate crash, then match uninsured motorist coverage to them.
3. **Choose a comprehensive deductible you could pay after a hailstorm**

Pick an amount you could cover from savings the week after a storm.
4. **List every driver, car and commute accurately**

Include teens, college students who drive home on weekends and long daily commutes.
5. **Review the quote line by line with a licensed agent**

Ask what each coverage pays, what it doesn’t, and which discounts may apply.

Clarence Robinson II and our team serve Arlington in English, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu and Coptic, a real need in a city where **36.3%** of residents age 5 and up speak a language other than English at home, per the Census Bureau (2020–2024). To check your coverage first, our [free policy review guide](https://www.robinsonlegacypartners.com/blog/claims-and-policy-reviews/texas-insurance-policy-review-guide-how-do-you-check-for-coverage-gaps/) shows what to bring.

## The bottom line

Car insurance in Arlington starts with the Texas floor of 30/60/25 liability, but Arlington’s roads and weather decide what that floor leaves uncovered. Thousands of yearly crashes argue for **liability limits well above the minimum** and ** uninsured motorist coverage to match**; hail, high water and theft argue for ** comprehensive with a deductible you could actually pay**.

Send us your ZIP below or call [(817) 262-5300](tel:+18172625300). We’ll read your declarations page with you, show what your limits would and wouldn’t pay, and quote Allstate coverage that fits how your household drives. You can also start on our [auto insurance page](https://www.robinsonlegacypartners.com/auto-insurance). We’re open Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 5.

## Other questions Arlington drivers ask

### Does car insurance cover damage in an Entertainment District parking lot?

It depends on what happened. If another driver backs into you, their liability should pay. If you hit a post or a car, collision covers your car after your deductible. Hail, vandalism or a break-in that damages the car falls under comprehensive. With liability only, damage to your own car is yours to pay.

### If I commute from south Arlington to Dallas on I-30, should I tell my insurer?

Yes. TDI lists where you live and how much you drive among the factors companies use, so a new job across the Metroplex, a longer commute or a switch to working from home is worth reporting. It’s also a good moment to revisit your liability limits.

### Is hail on my car and hail on my house one claim or two?

Two. Car damage goes to your auto policy, usually under comprehensive with its own deductible. Roof damage goes to your homeowners policy, often with a percentage deductible. One storm can mean two deductibles. Our [Arlington home insurance guide](https://www.robinsonlegacypartners.com/blog/home-insurance/home-insurance-in-arlington-texas-coverage-costs-and-quotes/) covers the house side.

### Do you insure drivers in Pantego, Dalworthington Gardens and Kennedale too?

Yes. We’re a licensed Texas agency in south Arlington, and we help drivers in Pantego, Dalworthington Gardens, Kennedale, Grand Prairie, Mansfield and across Texas. The same state rules apply everywhere, and your ZIP code is part of the quote.

## Arlington car insurance FAQ

Does Arlington have its own car insurance requirements beyond Texas law?+

No. Arlington drivers follow the same state rules as every Texas driver: liability coverage of at least $30,000 for injuries per person, $60,000 per accident and $25,000 for property damage, according to the Texas Department of Insurance and Transportation Code section 601.072. Your insurer must also include personal injury protection and offer uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, which you can decline only in writing. Lenders usually require collision and comprehensive on a financed car.

Is car insurance more expensive in Arlington than the Texas average?+

No regulator or approved public source publishes an Arlington average premium, so we can’t give you an honest city figure. Texas as a whole runs above the nation: the NAIC put Texas’s 2024 average auto expenditure at $1,578.45, against $1,431.63 nationally. Where the car is kept is a rating factor, according to the Texas Department of Insurance, so your Arlington ZIP code, commute, drivers and car all shape your price. Averages are context, not a quote.

How many car crashes happen in Arlington each year?+

The Texas Department of Transportation counted 5,317 reported crashes in the city of Arlington in 2024, more than 14 a day on average. They included 35 fatal crashes that killed 38 people and 168 crashes with suspected serious injuries. Tarrant County had 28,074 reported crashes that year. The figures come from Texas Peace Officer’s Crash Reports, processed as of April 9, 2025. Crash counts are one reason we suggest liability limits well above the state minimum.

Will my car insurance pay if my car floods on an Arlington street?+

Usually only if you carry comprehensive coverage. The Texas Department of Insurance says comprehensive covers damage to your car from flood, hail, fire and wind, after your deductible; liability alone pays nothing toward your own car, and any claim depends on your policy and the facts. Better not to test it: the National Weather Service warns that 12 inches of rushing water can carry away most cars, and the City of Arlington asks drivers to turn around when water covers a road.

Where is your Arlington office, and can I bring my policy in for a review?+

Our office is at 700 Highlander Blvd, Suite 405, in south Arlington near I-20, open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bring your current declarations page for a free review, or call (817) 262-5300 first. A licensed agent will go through your limits, deductibles, drivers and cars with you, in English, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu or Coptic, and explain what each coverage would and wouldn’t pay.
